The Sunday Market’s Holiday Market Raffle Benefits Local Charity “Grace Is The Key”

The Sunday Market reprises its popular “farmer’s market” theme for local artists, artisans, crafters, & creators with its first Holiday Market on Sunday, December 13th, 2020, from Noon to 4:00 p.m.  Sponsored by the Delta Bay Foundation, the Holiday Market will again be hosted at Park Delta Bay, which allows the Foundation to use its communal areas for Foundation events.

During last summer’s Sunday Market, sponsors, vendors, and volunteers introduced a unique raffle  Customers received a raffle ticket for each purchase.  Drawings provided a chance for “Market Money”, good for purchases at the following week’s Sunday Market.  At the Harvest Market, the raffle morphed into surprise wins, with the lucky customer selecting from one of many donated prizes.

In the spirit of the season, the Sunday Market has devised a unique giving opportunity and a chance to win one of our donated prizes as a reward for your generosity.  The Sunday Market asks that its customers donate a new, unwrapped children’s gift.  The donations can be warm outer wear such as hats, scarves, or gloves; books; or toys.  Each donation nets the giver a raffle ticket.  This ticket can then be placed in a bucket in front of the gift for which you yearn!  Donated gifts including local wines, creations by each vendor, and household decor will be staged for your viewing.  Select the item you might like to have, write your name, phone number, and e-mail address on the raffle ticket, and drop the ticket in the raffle bucket in front of the item you want!  At the day’s end, the Grace Is The Key representative will draw  a winner from each bucket, and the winner will be notified.  Winners will have until close of business on Monday, December 14th, to make arrangements to claim their prize.  Unclaimed prizes will go to the next-drawn ticket.

Grace Is The Key serves families in the Modesto, California area.  Founded as a not-for-profit in 2017 by Kimberly Dias Martinez, Grace Is The Key “provid[es] nutritious meals to anyone in need. This includes homeless people of all ages, as well as individuals and families who may be down on their luck and in need of some extra assistance.”  Volunteers bring trailers to a Modesto-area park every Wednesday, filled with gently loved clothes, shoes, blankets and socks. They also provide first aid supplies, health and hygiene items, food, love and prayers for the less fortunate.  A faith-based program, Grace Is The Key nonetheless welcomes all families who seek their assistance, and all volunteers and donors wishing to participate in the humane work of the program.

Though the current pandemic required suspending the weekly park events, Grace Is The Key nonetheless has done what it could to help the families which it serves.  The presents which Holiday Market customers donate will be part of the Christmas In The Park celebration.  The new, unwrapped children’s gifts will be lovingly wrapped and allocated along with the presents gifted by community members (including many Park Delta Bay residents) who have adopted specific children served by Grace Is The Key.

The Foundation chose Grace Is The Key as this year’s charity to highlight at the Holiday Market because its founder is the daughter of Wayne and Jerri Dias, park residents and purveyors of the drinks-and-desserts booth at the Sunday Market.  Wayne, Jerri, and their neighbor and friend Carol McClary will have a hot-drinks booth at the Holiday Market to warm your bones as you shop the Market.

The Sunday Market’s Holiday Market brings you many of the same vendors from this summer’s Market Row. Robin Pack returns with her Tiny Bakeshop.  Pattie Whitaker will be serving something from the stove top, since her grill is stored away for the winter. She’ll also sell her sweet bracelets.  Melissa Stolte’s Lavender Lovelies make excellent gifts or a treat for yourself!  Browse these and so many more locally-made unique treasures: Light-catching stained glass by Tracy Holcombe; jewelry, painted rocks, and driftwood signs by Melissa Fink; objects d’art and hand-crafted jewelry from Rachel Warren; seasonal decor from Ruth Crisantos; Co-Z coasters and cloths by Trinity Edens; hand-made cards created by Laurie Price; and specialty gifts by our favorite marina girl, Samm Bales.  We’ll also see some amazing hand-polished stones from Arizona, gathered, curated, and sold by Ray Lahti.  These make excellent purchases for yourself or a friend to display in a glass vessel or dish.  Alex Loesch will sketch you and your group for a small fee, and your dog for free!  His pencil creations can later adorn your mantle!  The women of Silo Farm Organics will also be on hand with their winter harvest!

The Holiday Market takes place in the common area at Park Delta Bay.  Costumers will first have a chance to visit with the folks from Grace Is The Key, who will gratefully receive your donated gift and tender your raffle ticket.  Select the gift on which you want to take your chance, drop your ticket, then head down the sidewalk to visit the vendors!  On the covered sidewalk and in an adjacent covered tent, the vendors will display their wares for your viewing and buying pleasure!  A small number of vendors will also be staged in the community room, entered through a backdoor at the end of the sale tent.  The easy circular flow allows for proper physical distancing in keeping with state and county Covid-19 orders.  Customers and vendors will be asked to wear face coverings while interacting from less than six feet and when standing in groups which include persons not of their household.

The Holiday Market expects a visit from St. Nick, if he can take time from his North Pole duties.  Also expected are the men and women of the River Delta Fire District, who will stop by to say hello if not needed elsewhere.  The community so appreciates what our first-responders do, so please tell them “Thank you!” any chance you get!

The Sunday Market Vendors and Volunteers look forward to their first Holiday Market, and to receiving your donated gifts for Grace Is The Key.  Come enjoy a hot drink, a delicious baked item, and some delicious food while exploring the local creations on offer!  Don’t miss this delightful event, right here on the California Delta Loop!
