Delta Bay Foundation’s Sunday Market 2024 Opening Event!

The Delta Bay Foundation triumphantly returns to the Delta Loop for their fifth  season.  The Sunday Market’s Spring Market takes place Sunday, May 05th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in and around the clubhouse and community room at Park Delta Bay RV and Tiny House Resort, 922 W. Brannan Island Road on the California Delta Loop.

The Sunday Market began in 2020 at the height of the first pandemic lockdown, when Sacramento County regulations permitted a limited variety of social gatherings.   Outdoor markets had the fewest restrictions, and so the Sunday Market began!   The Foundation, a California not-for-profit with 501(c)(3) tax status, promotes the culture, commerce, community, and conservation of the Sacramento – San Joaquin Delta.  Prior to the establishment of the Sunday Market, the Foundation hosted informational meetings to bring members of the community together with local government officials to dialogue about the needs of the area.  The Delta Bay Foundation also sponsors the annual Camp Tiny House, an event focusing on sustainable housing which takes place every October on the grounds of Park Delta Bay.

Corinne Corley, Foundation secretary and manager of the Sunday Market, recently announced the Spring Market’s 2024 date.  “We have new vendors and returning beloved standbys,” she noted.  “Silo Farms will be on hand with spring veggies, herbs, and whatever flowers their field has provided with the spring rains.  Lavender Lovelies, a Market veteran and favorite, has expanded her cottage kitchen licensed fare with herbal teas, finishing salts, her wonderful soaps, and sprays.”  Also participating is the Tiny Bakeshop, a cottage kitchen licensed baker.  The owners of both businesses live in the Tiny House section of Park Delta Bay and have been Market vendors since its first year.  “But look for all kinds of locally made wares,” Corley said.  “T-shirts, candles, keychains, and a host of wonderful goods.  All of our vendors live in the Delta, and their creative energies reflect the diversity of our region.”

The Sunday Market’s favorite entertainer, Randy Carey, will be on hand with his amazing guitar work and earthy, venerable voice.  Many of the artists and creatives will be staged on the wide, covered porch of the Park’s clubhouse if weather permits, but the entire community room provides comfortable space for an array of sellers.

With spring in the air, Michelle Burke, friend of the Market, will make an appearance with whatever baby bunnies and goats can be parted from their mothers.  “Right now they are just one pound,” Burke acknowledged.  “By the first of May, they should be big enough to snuggle in a pocket and bring over to the Park.”   Burke, whose Isleton property affords grazing and growing room for several critters, has previously visited the Market with her pet goose Weeda.  Weeda also made an appearance at this year’s Isleton Asian New Year Festival as a Dragon in honor of the Year of the Dragon.

The Delta Bay Foundation will have a drinks stand set up inside the community room with proceeds benefiting Foundation activities including the Sunday Market.  The Foundation received a significant grant five years ago from an anonymous donor and thus has never had to charge a table or booth fee to participating vendors.  Sales of beverages will help replenish the coffers so that the Foundation can continue this policy.  Park Delta Bay provides the space without cost to the Foundation as a benefit to the community.  Park staff assists in the set-up, breakdown, and orchestration of the Foundation events, a demonstration of the Park’s commitment to the California Delta.

Interested artists and makers can contact Corinne Corley at 816-520-9152 or by e-mail at ccorleyjd@gmail.com  For directions to the Park or information about long or short-term space at the Park or docking at the Delta Bay Marina, call the park office at 916-777-5588.

See you at the Sunday Market’s Spring Market!
