The Seasons Turn

As dusk settles on the park, families come home for their evening meal.  In tiny houses, park models, trailers, and RVs, the folks who live at Park Delta Bay comprise a solid community.  From May through September, our gravel drives and leveled-lots also hold vacationers and seasonal folks.  Laughter drifts across the clear water of the pool, and boaters make their way over to the Marina for an early morning ride.  But in the winter, the visitors wane and we return to being a close-knit group.

From the holiday gatherings to the Community Garden, the paths and common areas sparkle with the same sort of cheerful conversation that marks any neighborhood.  Parents carry baskets to the laundry room.  Teen-agers tote the recycle to its dumpster.  Here and there, staff makes their way through the park in work vehicles and on golf carts, keeping the trees trimmed, the water flowing, and the lights beaming strong into the darkness of the cool fall nights.

We had our last monthly gathering for our season in early October.  About a hundred visitors came to learn about life in our growing tiny-house-on-wheels village.  Five households opened their doors and let guests peak in their lots and at this small, impeccably made dwellings.

Now the community launched itself into the holiday season with a Halloween Parade and Potluck.  Children who live in the park brought their parents. Games, music, karoake, face-painting, and a fire in the park’s communal firepit made for a spooky and savory evening!  At the end of the night, the adults made smores for the kids to enjoy, though rumor has it that some of the bigger “kids” went home with marshmallow on their grinning faces!

As the staff readies the park for the rainy season, we’ve started a weekly game night.  One of our residents continues to teach Zumba classes in the early morning.  We’re planning the annual Thanksgiving gathering, and Christmas will come right on its heels!  We’re happy folks at Park Delta Bay, where #deltalife welcomes all!
