The Sunday Market celebrates the dog days of the Delta summer on Sunday August 14th. Market vendors invite you to bring your small / medium, crowd- friendly leashed dogs to join the fun!
Along with the usual dozen vendors, the Sunday Market welcomes Jessie Finch of Paws the Attitude. Finch will provide canine-centered education to Market visitors in a fun and enjoyable way! Her booth will occupy the fenced area where the Kids Korner normally takes place. She will show willing canine volunteers and their eager humans a few tips-and-tricks. Finch describes herself as a dog trainer who “offers personalized in-home dog training, dog walking, and boarding” through Paws the Attitude. Her booth will include informative and entertaining games and a draw for a gift certificate for services. She is located in nearby Stockton, so her services are accessible to Delta-area residents.
But the doggie doings don’t stop with delightful discipline! Some of the folks who live at Park Delta Bay have organized a Puppy Parade! The pups and their people with don festive attire and waltz through the market! Well-behaved humans kept on a lead by their canine companions can join the parade! Signs on display as you enter the Market area will announce the gathering place! The Market Managers hope the parade can organize at 11:00 a.m., but with cantankerous humans you can’t always count on promptness!
Robin Pack, known to market goers from the Sunday Market’s first two years as the Tiny Bakeshop lady, returns to the Market with Pup Treats, which will be for sale in the Market right next to Dia Peterson’s darling Doggie Bows & Bandanas (which, truth told, could be used for a feline critter if you were so inclined). Robin and the Boys will also be part of the Puppy Parade! Rumor also has it that a roving photographer will be snapping pictures of visitors and their pups which subjects will be able to purchase by digital send for a small fee!
The Sunday Market also welcomes the return of metalworker Eric Fanslau who hasn’t been able to show and sell at the Market since spring, due to his work schedule. His amazing metal decor can be purchased at the market as presented or personalized by special order. Fanslau’s work graces many a Delta yard, truly exquisite and quite popular. The Market Manager practically jumped for joy when he scheduled for the coming event! He also does custom vinyl sign work, and visitors love him for the volunteer efforts that he has quietly undertaken in the past, like making a custom sign for the local volunteer fire department and donating earnings from his booth to worthwhile causes. Stop by his booth early, because everybody loves his work and the Sunday Market doesn’t get to see it often enough! He’s sure to be popular.
The Sunday Market welcomes Taqueria Mexico back on August 14th for their second round as the food vendor. Their tacos, beans, rice, and griddle-quesadillas kept the lines long at the last Market Sunday! Who doesn’t love their yummy tacos?!? Rumor has it that they might put together veggie tacos this time, which the Market Manager and many of the vendors will greatly appreciate! But all of their food pleases the Sunday Market crowd, so plan to put one of your cohorts in line to place the order while you tour the market stands looking for goodies!
When you’ve gotten your lunch, grab a free cold water and take a chair or pull up a log at the fire-circle (not lit on the hot summer days, of course!) to enjoy the live entertainment from one of our favorites, Randy Carey. Then check out the new designs in stained glass by Tracy Holcombe, Demi Stewart’s gorgeous photographs of the incomparable California Delta, and the other arts and crafts offering by Market vendors.
Stop at the Silo Farm Organics booth for fresh local veggies and the Delta Tails Farm stand for local eggs from happy free-range chickens on Ryer Island (provided the ferry runs that day so Stacy and John don’t get stranded at home!). Buy candles, soaps, Biblical journals, collectibles including cute Betty Boop fare, or cozy crocheted sundries! Cottage-Kitchen made sauces and hand-pies! Hand-sewn linens and totes! With endless creativity in the California Delta, the Sunday Market proudly offers a place for showing and shopping local!
The Sunday Market recently has begun to build a shop for its vendors. The Delta Bay Marina provided a room at the back of its store for that purpose. The Sunday Market Shop will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and non-Market Sundays in season, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Sunday Market takes place on 2nd and 4th Sundays in June, July, and August, with special events for Spring (April), Harvest (October), and Holiday (December). Market vendors will also set up on Saturday, August 20th, as part of Delta Loopfest. Market hours are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the Sunday Market sets up under and around the big Tent in the central meadow at Park Delta Bay. For more information about the Sunday Market, email Corinne Corley, the Market Manager, at ccorleyjd@gmail.com or phone her at 816-520-9152. For directions to Park Delta Bay, 922 W. Brannan Island Road on the California Delta Loop, call the park office at 916-777-5588. For information about berthing and slips at the Delta Bay Marina call the Marina store at 916-777-4153. The Sunday Market is a project of the Delta Bay Foundation, a 501(c)(3) exempt California not-for-profit which does not currently charge participating vendors thanks to a grant from a source that prefers not to be praised and so remains anonymous. Park Delta Bay and the Delta Bay Marina do not charge the Foundation for the use of their space, because they support the commerce, culture, and creativity of the California Delta.
See you at the Sunday Market!
Although the Sunday Market welcomes all visitors, anyone who causes a disturbance will be asked to leave. This includes unruly humans and their canine companions during the Dog Days of the Delta Summer. But do bring your people on their leash, just be prepared to clean any mess they leave!
