Thanks to a grant from Sacramento County, endorsed by county supervisor Pat Hume, the Delta Bay Foundation will present a celebration of the California Delta. “Flora, Fauna, & Fun!” takes place on October 18th in the Windy Cove camp site at the Brannan Island State Recreational Area.
The Windy Cove campsite is located opposite the main entrance to the Brannan Island State Recreational Area on Highway 160 just before the Three Mile Slough Bridge.
This family-focused event features one of the jewels of the state park system, at which camping, boating, and fishing have always been prime. The day’s agenda includes a scavenger hunt for native plants, where children can learn about local flora and win prizes! With materials and information compiled by the staff of the state parks department, this activity gives kids a chance to hike through the campsite, keep their “eagle eyes” peeled for flowers unique to the area, and talk to a real “park ranger” who will show them the rudiments of orienteering! Each child who takes part in the scavenger hunt will get their very own compass and souvenir booklet!
Local small-farmer-owner Lindsay Eyler, also known in town as “Fauna Forward Photography”, will share stories of Amelia the Adventure Chicken and other critters on her Sherman Island property. Stacy Williams of Delta Tails Farm will describe her pasture-raised chicken-and-egg operation on Ryer Island and talk about life as an independent farmer in the modern era. Craft market vendors will be set up in the meadow for browsing and buying. With the Brazilian Appetizers Food Truck on hand to quench your thirst and satisfy your appetite, you can relax under the beautiful trees alongside the Sacramento River!
The Delta Bay Foundation appreciates being a 2025 – 2026 recipient of a TOT grant allowing them to present this as the first of three educational events at BISRA. In the spring, they will present two more events, focusing on water safety and fire prevention. The Delta Bay Foundation is a California not-for-profit with 501(c)(3) status dedicated to the conservation, commerce, culture, and community of the Sacramento-San Joaquin California Delta. In this grant season, they are joining forces with the current concessionaire at BISRA, Park Delta Bay LLC.
For information about attending the event or being a business sponsor or vendor, contact Foundation secretary Corinne Corley at 816-520-9152, or president Candice Adrian at 916-777-5588. The organizers want to especially thank and commend the staff and management of Park Delta Bay RV & Tiny House Resort on the Delta Loop; the Law Offices of Greta Jenkins, an estate planning & probate firm in Rio Vista; and Mubdie’s: A Creative Collective in Isleton, for contributions of supplies, equipment, and equipment usage for this event.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend “Flora, Fauna, and Fun!” on October 18th, 10am to 4pm, at the Brannan Island State Recreational Area! We hope to see you there!
