Delta Doo Dah; Wine & Food Pairings; and Local Art

“July 13th — Delta Bay Marina! Delta Doo Dah!”

A Midwesterner studied the sign on the door of the kiosk at Park Delta Bay. “Just what is a Doo Dah?” she asked, being from that vast wasteland somewhere east of the Rockies and West of the Alleghenies.

“It’s a boat thing,” came the reply, from someone who thought the asker ought to understand.
A boat thing indeed! Apparently, the Delta Doo Dah started over a glass of champagne, fueled by the desire to introduce Bay area boaters to the waters flowing from the ocean across the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley. With intermittent stops along the rivers of the Delta, the brigade will lay-over at the Delta Bay Marina on July 13, 2019, for its tenth annual event.
The boaters come and go as they please, joining their cohorts for as much of the sail as they can. When they dock at our Marina, they will enjoy a Noon to 4:00 p.m. wine-tasting from a local winery, with food pairing, served on the spacious patio. A $10.00 donation for the wine-tasting sponsored by the Delta Bay Foundation will go to a local charity. The organizers say that Michael McNevin will set up equipment for an open-mic jam, which all can join with their own instruments. The Marina grill will be sizzling with free food, served by the friendly Marina and Park staff and management.

While the Delta Doo Dah lounges in the Marina, a fabulous, one-of-a-kind art show will unfold down the hill in the community room at the Clubhouse in the Park. Local Photographers such as Jake Kimbrell, Don Wisdom, Robbie Murphree-Gabriel, and Demi Stewart will be joined by painters and mixed media artists. Their work will show throughout Saturday, with members of the public encouraged to attend, view, and purchase. Refreshments will be on hand, under the big tent on the spacious and lovely Park grounds.

The day’s events will be capped with a 4:00 p.m. presentation by Bill Wells, Executive Director of the California Delta Chambers & Visitor’s Bureau. Wells will host a seminar about the maritime history of the Bay and Delta river route. His talk will be illustrated with Delta photos dating back to the early 20th century, explaining the settlement of the Delta by Europeans.

The staging and presentation of the wine-tasting, art show, and maritime seminar will span the Park and the Marina. Signs and staff at both locations will direct visitors to parking and each event. Weather and other day-specific factors will play into exactly where each component will unfold, so arrive early and look for signage on site. For further information call the Park at 916-777-5588. To reserve dock space, call 916-777-4153.
