The Delta Bay Foundation announced that its July 24th Sunday Market would celebrate Christmas in July! We can’t wait to see the garlands and baubles on vendors’ tables and the Christmas-themed crafts in the Kids Korner! Ho, ho, ho! We’re loving the spirit that the Sunday Market vendors, volunteers, and visitors bring the the California Delta Loop.
The July 10th Sunday Market provided another chance for a local community group to meet-and-greet visitors to the Market. The Friends of Isleton Library displayed information and sold books to raise money for the programs at our local community library. They also handed out magic pencils that turned colors in the warm summer sun! The public libraries promote teaching children about the power of reading. “Inspire the joy of reading in a child and give them a gift that will last a lifetime. It starts with one book.” their website tells us. “What can one book do? One book can inspire a lifelong love of reading, which is foundational to a child’s personal and academic development.” Christine Weaver, Friends of the Isleton Library board Secretary, represented the group. She will return at the August 14th Sunday Market, so watch for her then. The Friends of the Isleton Library are part of the Friends of the Sacramento Public Library. Now that the public health crisis has abated, they can again accept your gently used books. Donated books are sold at the Book Den, at warehouse sales, in Branch bookstores, and their online stores. If they are unable to sell a donated book, promote literacy and support other non-profits through book outreach programs. Library volunteers deliver books to a variety of schools, medical facilities, senior care centers, children’s homes, shelters, youth centers, adult detention facilities and many more locations. If you are interested in joining outreach volunteers, you can contact the Book Den at (916) 731-8493.
The Sunday Market continues to welcome the ladies of Silo Farm Organics, Ali Dale and her daughter Jennifer. Though their garden has been a few weeks behind the normal schedule due to a late frost, their summer tomatoes are starting to ripen under the rays of the Delta Sun. At the last market, they had their first ‘maters, lovely squash, sweet peppers, and delicate cucumbers. And of course, sunflowers! They hope to have their heirloom tomatoes in abundance at the July 24th market but whatever organic veggies they bring will be amazing! If you miss Ali or Jen at the Sunday Market, you can visit their honor-system farm stand next to their fields in Walnut Grove seven days a week during the growing season.
No Sunday Market would be quite as enjoyable without live entertainment. The Sunday Market’s regular performer, Randy Carey, returns for “Christmas In July” on July 24th. Along with his normal crooning, we hope to persuade him to give us a holiday jingle or two! Maybe we’ll even get him to wear an elf hat!
Randy’s mellow voice and sweet spirit keep us in our seats well past the 2:00 p.m. end-of-market hour. He strums that guitar and our feet just tap and that big smile of his finds its way to our faces! Bring your blues to the Sunday Market and ease your worries down into a chair and let one of our favorite singers melt your cares away!
And no “Christmas in July” would be complete without jingle bells and Santa, so keep a good watch as you tour the vendors under the Market tent! There might be a surprise or two waiting for you!
The Sunday Market takes place 2nd and 4th Sundays in June, July, and August. The “Christmas In July” event will be July 24th, 10am to 2pm in the central meadow at Park Delta Bay, 922 W. Brannan Island Road, on the California Delta Loop. We note that road construction will close the bridges east of the Loop, but local access will be allowed from Highway 160. Hours are 10am to 2pm. For information about the Sunday Market and the Delta Bay Foundation, contact Corinne Corley at 816-520-9152 or by email at ccorleyjd@gmail.com.
