The Sacramento Delta offers an insight into the richness of life in Northern California. Though NORCAL has its challenges, including devastating wildfires, a threatened water eco-system, and a mild remoteness, the splendor of the area prevails. The birds around us contribute to the allure of the area. Whether migrating or native, the sky teems with the rise and fall of beautiful flocks, from swans to Sandhill cranes. Surrounding fields offer fertile grounds for the gorgeous creatures to rest and feed.
Park Delta Bay sits at mile five of the ten-mile California Delta Loop. With rivers on the perimeter and fields in the center, the Loop presents a microcosm of Delta life. Situated on Andrus Island, near the Brannan Island State Park and just west of Lodi, our immediate vicinity boasts a bounty of beauty made richer by the birds which spend the winter months here before continuing their southward journey.
Park residents never tire of photographing our avian visitors. Egrets, hawks, owls, geese, and even crows soar through our trees and land in our meadow. The great horned owl sends her call into the night as she keeps watch.
Wine country has its mountains, and the Bay area sits on the majestic Pacific. But here we have rivers, and fields, and the loveliness of birds cutting through the sky against the backdrop of the setting sun. Nothing surpasses the glory and serenity of the Sacramento Delta.
