Park Delta Bay sits at mile five on the ten-mile stretch of the California Delta Loop. You traverse levee roads to enter the Park, along the Sacramento, the San Joaquin, and the Molekumne, depending on how you enter the Loop.
The beauty of Park Delta Bay lies in its green expanses and tall trees; its proximity to the River and its sister Marina; and the peacefulness of its acreage. But it shines as a destination for other reasons. Centrally located in the Sacramento Delta, the Park can be reached in under two hours from hustle and bustle of Bay life or the state capital, Sacramento. Park Delta Bay often serves its visitors as a launch point for touring the attractions of both Sacramento and Solano Counties, everything Delta.
Starting with the Delta Bay Marina, you can dock your boat or walk across from the Park to enjoy monthly wine tastings this summer. The inaugural gathering takes place on Saturday, May 11th, from Noon to 4:00 p.m. The cost is $10.00 per person. You’ll be able to try wines from local vineyards on the boardwalk of the Marina under the lovely Delta sky.
In nearby Lodi, you can do an olive oil tasting at CaliVirgin. Isleton offers establishments such as Yes My Sweet BBQ, The Joint and Mei Wah’s Beer Room, tasty food and pleasant drink among friendly people. While you’re in Isleton, check out some of its history and its other businesses, as the town continues its restoration. Then head over to the historic towns of Walnut Grove and Locke, to learn more about the early settlers of the area and see original dwellings and establishments.
For outdoor lovers, start with the Park’s tennis courts and pool when you’re staying on site in warmer months. Venture out to nearby recreational areas, like Brannan Island State Recreation Area or Mount Diablo State Park. The adventurous should lace on a sturdy pair of shoes, grab a walking stick, and go exploring on any of the Delta’s wonderful hiking trails. Some area trails even have portions which have been made wheelchair accessible, such as the Sacramento River Parkway Trail. (Check websites and local information for details.)
Needless to say, of all the hobbies that find an outlet in the Sacramento Delta, photography stands highest. The timeless river, nearby mountains, glorious bird migrations, and fantastic flora and fauna will keep any shutterbug happy. Pack extra SD cards or film and plan to hang out of car windows or stand on park benches. Nothing engrosses amateurs and professionals alike so much as the splendor of our Delta!
In nearby Sacramento, plenty of cultural, outdoor, and nightlife venues provide entertainment for all ages. One local blogger describes “Twenty Indoor Things to Do In Sacramento”. From the Park, you can take the fast way, east on 12 and north on 5, or the scenic route, 160 along the river before cutting over Twin Cities Road to hit 5. The latter path, slow and easy, winds through the lush vineyards, olive groves, and river banks of the Sacramento. Don’t forget to make a reservation for a sumptuous brunch at Grand Island Mansion!
If you’re headed to the area with an RV or trailer and need a reservation at the Park, plan now as our casual parking tends to fill very quickly each year.
