Delta Life: Art for the Holidays

On Saturday, November 09th, 2019, the Delta Bay Foundation will host a Delta art fair, “Art for the Holidays”.  Eight artists, all based in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, will show and sell their work  at Park Delta Bay.  Weather permitting, some artists might bloom on the spacious lawn surrounding the Clubhouse, under the Delta sky.  Rain will bring us into the cozy but generous space of the Community Room.

The fair begins at Noon and ends at 4:00 p.m.  Singer-songwriter Josh Jakubowski will reprise his popular entertainment from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served throughout.  The artists retain all proceeds of any sales.  Neither the Delta Bay Foundation nor the host venue, Park Delta Bay, exact gallery fees, participation costs, or commission.  The Delta Bay Foundation, a California not-for-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status, dedicates itself to promoting all things California Delta, from conservation, to water safety, to education and entrepreneurship.

Char Hall
As so many artists do Char attempted to sustain herself in the ‘real world’ with the doldrums of a 9-5 civilian job and found it dreadfully unfulfilling, so in 2006 Char returned to pursue art full time. Oil paints and pencils are some of her favorite mediums and often, she will work out difficult tattoo tasks with oil and canvas before she brings them to life on the skin. .
At the original home of Side Show Studios in Sacramento, California, Char assembled a team of artists that shared her vision of making tattooing an art form, all of whom have spread their wings and blossomed into skilled individuals in their own right. In June of 2017 Char decided to migrate south to quieter, greener pastures and set up shop in the gorgeous, sleepy town of Walnut Grove, where she now resides permanently. Char has regularly hosted guest artists from all over the world at Side Show Studios, and frequently travels to tattoo at conventions and tattoo at other host studios herself. Char will feature her delicate, lovely artwork with oil and canvas at this event.

Isabel Dresler

Isabel Dresler (known more affectionately as Izzy) is a non-binary photographer, videographer and director who has been taking photos of whatever and whomever they can get in front of the lens since the nineties. With a background in portraiture, commercial, macro and nature photography, Izzy has exclusively been making a living with their camera for nearly fifteen years.
When not crawling around with a camera, Izzy enjoys crawling around in the dirt (also with a camera) looking for plants and bugs, taking long walks along the river with their partner, and eating too many cookies.

You can learn more about Izzy at their website, isabeldresler.com

Sheila Bookwalter

Sheila Bookwalter lives in Tower Park Village. with her husband, two cats, and their dog.  She describes herself as an avid fisher, drawn to the Delta by that love which she shares with her spouse.  Retirement has given her time to fish and create.  She shows in a booth at The Purple House in Lodi and loves exploring area wines, gardening, and creating.  Her unique style features a variety of textures and media.  Many of her creations include both beauty and function, though the beauty might prompt you to save them for display on your holiday tablescape.

Don Wisdom
Don Wisdom, a Delta Native son, returns for his third show at Park Delta Bay.  Part of July’s Delta Doo Dah and the recent two-person show at the Marina, Don brings his unique eye and powerful love of the Delta to his work.  From the bridges to the fields to the Sandhill Cranes, Don finds the nooks and crannies of our lovely region and brings them to life on canvas and metal.  With his wife Robin, Don founded the Delta News Group on Facebook, which he uses to promote local business and encourage community.  Owning a Don Wisdom piece is like having an extra window through which only beauty can be seen.  Besides showing at area festivals, Don peddles his wares at the aptly-named Wisdom Photography.

Demi Stewart
Like her friend and cohort Don Wisom, Demi has spent most of her life in the Delta, and it shows in the keen intuition with which she captures the gorgeous sunrises and interesting architecture of the bridges of the California Delta.  Demi often captures those bridges from a bird’s-eye view, since she works full-time as a bridge-tender.  Nothing captures the spirit of the Delta as keenly as any lens held in Demi’s hand as she travels the backroads and waterways of our rivers.  We’re proud that Demi is also returning for a third show at the Park, since soon she will be in such demand that we’ll have to stand in line for an autograph.  Don’t forget us when you’re famous, Demi!

Rachel Warren
Rachel Warren has always loved colored glass so decided to start creating her own designs.    Once a jewelry designer, and former dental assistant, she stretched her creative legs and explored a completely new medium.  Compelling by her deep love for Mexican folk images, she started painting glassware and other objects d’art.  She shows her work in faires and online at Magic Alechemy Designs.
This will be Rachel’s first appearance at one of the pop-up art shows here at Park Delta Bay. We can’t wait!
