It is known for a range of both red and white varietals that grow very well. Because there is significantly less probability of spring frost, we’re ensured relatively consistent crop loads. Less rainfall during critical growing stages ensures consistent quality, and less spring rainfall depletes ground water faster, stressing vines sooner to create more flavor.

Named after Robert C. Clark, Clarksburg was settled in stages, starting in 1850’s with Merritt Island which was cleared for agricultural use. Today, more than 160 years later, many of the families who initially settled in the area are still present. Among those, the Bogle family which started farming in Clarksburg in the 1850’s and the Heringer family since 1868. Also Peter Marks, proprietor of Six Hands, is the great grandson of Joseph Machado, who farmed and made wine in Clarksburg in the 1890’s. And the Wilson family has farmed in Clarksburg since the early 1920’s.
